My professional background is as a teacher and counselor.  I was an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Valencia College and worked with students every week to help them understand the scientific study of mental functions and behaviors.  Psychology has the immediate goal of understanding individuals and groups by both establishing general principles and researching specific cases.  In class, we explored concepts such as perception, cognition, attention, emotion, phenomenology, motivation, brain functioning, personality, behavior, and interpersonal relationships.

Prior to my work in private practice, I took on perhaps the most challenging cases at The Center for Drug-Free Living.  In working with addicted persons, many of whom endured tremendous difficulties in life, I used therapeutic techniques to help them promote the highest level of positive mental health.  I worked with the clients, their children, and their families to deal with emotional disorders and encourage everyone to develop insight into themselves and their relationships.  Often I was asked to run large group sessions where up to 20 clients met for group counseling, in a sometimes adversarial environment.  I was also called upon to serve some of the most difficult substance-abuse clients due to my innate ability to help people open up, express their feelings, and stop letting the same issues block their road to recovery.

In private practice, I have even more opportunity to work on individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and objectives. Of course my job is more than clinical assessments – it is to get a thorough understanding of who you are and what you want to accomplish.  I pride myself on strict adherence to all client confidentiality requirements and standards.  I graduated from UCF with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, then from Troy University with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health, and have furthered my training with various specialized programs.  For example, I am trained in Prepare/Enrich Training, Collaborative Law, Motivational Interviewing Training, Trauma-Focused Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy, Circles of Belonging Diversity Training, and Leadership and Management Training.  I look forward to meeting you and will do everything in my power to help you maximize your abilities and live the life that you always knew was possible.
